Primary school children encouraged to run a marathon via @KidsMarathonUK

Inspiring kids to start running to ignite their passion for sport allowing them to become healthier, happier, more confident children.

Kids’ Marathon is an exciting primary schools initiative from children’s charity Kids Run Free. The concept is simple – challenge children to run a full marathon over the course of the academic year by running once or twice a week during their lunch break round a course either on the school playing field or playground.

There is no need to get kids changed into PE kit just let them run. We also recommend that this be offered on a different day to when they have their normal physical education as it should be an opportunity to do an extra session of activity during the week rather than an extension of their in curricular PE lessons.

To ensure everything starts off with a bang a member of the Kids Run Free team will come to your school to set up the programme making everything as easy as possible for you and the school – we know just how busy the school day can be. As a part of the launch we will provide all equipment for you to be able to run the Kids’ Marathon. We will also measure out and set up the running course, populate the Digital Progress Card (an excel spreadsheet for recording the laps run) with the class registers, deliver a 20min PowerPoint presentation during the school assembly to engage the children and teachers in the programme, get the kids running their first few laps towards their marathons during the lunch break and leave you with posters, stickers and a running booklet for every child. All this for just £1.00 per child.

Throughout the academic year Kids Run Free will keep in touch supporting you to make the Kids’ Marathon as successful as it can be. Certificates will be sent to children once they have reached the half marathon and any children who run the full marathon with receive a Kids’ Marathon medal.

At the end of the program Kids Run Free hosts the Festival of Running and will invite all participating schools to attend. These fun events are a culmination of the programme and celebrate the children’s efforts, we also give out awards to the top performing schools and children.

We are now taking applications for the 2016/17 academic year. If you would like to know more about the Kids’ Marathon or to apply please go to:
