Recently added to the UKEdChat Apple EduApps page is FindMe, an app designed to support nonverbal autistic children. The app has been developed by a team of psychologists at the University of Edinburgh and aims to help young children with autism practice simple social skills.
Speaking to Wired.co.uk, researchers found that all children that used the iPad learnt new words and some produced sentences. “For some parents, it was the first time they’d been able to converse with their children. With the onset of iPads, that kind of communication may become possible for greater numbers of children with autism and their families,” said Ann Kaiser, a professor at Vanderbilt Peabody College of Education and Human Development.
The app is also available free (click here), but the full version is priced UK£7.99*, and is available by clicking the App Store image below.
