–As many teachers work hard to instil a love of writing within their pupils (usually not by giving ‘lines’ as a punishment!), BBC Radio 2 is helping with their annual competition aimed at children aged 13 and under (UK only). Winners can win their own height in books, writing stories with a word-count of up to 500 words. This also complements the 500 Words website which includes:
- WRITING TIPS from the celebrity judges,
- LESSON PLANS to crank up the creativity in the classroom!
- The 500 WORDS ALPHABOT – a random word generator with 500 WORDS in his databank. Just press Alphabot’s tummy and he’ll load five words to help start your story! There are 250 billion possible word combinations!
- A minute-long mash up of FAVOURITE WORDS, from famous faces (including Gary Lineker, Kylie Minogue, stars of Strictly, Huw Edwards and CBBC’s Hacker T. Dog!)
- 500 WORDS POSTERS – print them out, pop them up, and spread the word!
