Feature: Save Scissors & Glue with Exampro @Testbase_Online

EPO_NEW_rgbAs many children and families are enjoying the Easter break – with the promise of long summer days ahead – teachers across the land are tucked away worrying and planning about the oncoming arrival of exam season. Clearly, no teaching to the test goes on, but the anxiety teachers’ show is usually because they want their pupils to perform to the greatest of abilities, so preparing for these exams is a crucial preparation necessary to allow for the top results.

So, with glue stick, scissors, and lots of blank paper to hand, many teachers rummage through past papers, ready to mock-test pupils. Unless you are highly trained as a designer, the results usually look less professional than the papers the pupils will actually receive when exam day finally comes around.

Back in 1994, two teachers were armed with scissors and glue, cutting and pasting past exam papers for assessment. Enough was enough, so they formed Exampro, which now provides 20,000 past GCSE and A-level exam questions, mark schemes and examiner comments, as well as past papers for Key Stage 2 SATs papers for Reading, Writing and Maths. The site allows teachers to be selective in choosing past questions into a unique paper for pupils, allowing to be printed out in a pupil familiar format which will help in the preparations for the big exam day. The site allows you to search for questions by topic, level, type of question or assessment objective, and make a topic test, homework task or revision exercise.

Robin Haynes, Head of Chemistry, St George’s School declared, “I’m delighted by how much time and effort Exampro has saved us.” Another teacher, Gareth Butcher, Social Sciences Curriculum Director, Long Field Academy, is also delighted with the flexibility, “Exampro forms the basis of our ongoing assessment and is a fantastic preparation tool for the final exams!”
