Tribute: Bev Evans R.I.P.

BevevansIt is with great sadness that today we heard of the passing of one of the forming educators of UKEdChat, Bev Evans. Bev was very supportive and keen to be involved in UKEdChat, especially when it was set up in 2010.

Known widely on twitter as @BevEvans22, Bev had recently been fighting against cancer, but finally lost the battle yesterday (18 March 2014). Widely known within the education community for the creation of resources, her passion for Special Needs Education, and her artistic prowess, Bev was very well respected by teachers globally who downloaded and used her work regularly in classrooms.

Bev’s passion for her work was clear to see to those who worked closely with her, and those lucky enough to see her present her skills at various teachmeets, conferences and meetings – her presentation at BETT 2013 stands out in the memory, as she captured the audience with her artistic skills whilst demonstrating how to produce clip-art within Microsoft Publisher.

Recently, Bev received the shocking news about cancer, and was undergoing treatment in hospital near her home in South Wales – however she remained positive and upbeat even through this most difficult time.

Our thoughts are with Bev’s family at this terribly sad time. Our web editor said,

“Bev was very supportive in helping me set up UKEdChat, and she was very keen with the idea when it arose at a TeachMeet in Blackpool in 2010. Her passion with education, art, and special needs was very clear to see – however her family was her number one priority as her stories about family adventures were legendary. Bev will be missed within the education community, but it is with her family our thoughts are currently focused.”
