The future of our planet, and the importance of all the forests around the globe is explored extensively in this fantastic “Our Forest, Our World” online resource created by Scotdec Global Learning.
The resource helps teachers and pupils explore the interdependence of people and forests and the vital role forests play in sustaining our environment.
It encourages reflection on the possible futures of the world’s forests and ways of taking positive actions for a future where people and forests co-exist in a sustainable way.
The site has four sections – What is a Forest? How do we use Forests? What is happening to our Forests? Forests of the Future – all comprehensively packed with resources, discussion points, teacher notes and activities to help build a in depth topic around sustainability and/or forests. Well thought out, the site offers outdoor, assessment and homework ideas complimented with a library of PDF resources to support the materials.
As the resource was part funded by the Scottish Government and created in Scotland, there is a slight emphasis on some of the wonderful forests in the country, however these could easily be adapted to your locality – hopefully encouraging you and your pupils to explore any forests accessible to you.
The resource has the potential to be used with primary or secondary pupils, with the level of depth and exploration easily adaptable for the pupils you teach.
