Resource: Secure Messaging Scorecard

Which apps and tools actually keep your messages safe?

The online environment is awash with messaging apps, dominating modern mobile technologies which are easily accessible to all of us. But how private are our communications? Does anyone else see these messages which we freely send?

We all see groups of people glued to their devices, sending messages back and forth, but how informed are we about the privacy of data we send?  A project of the Electronic Frontier Foundation has released a first phase of a scorecard which explores how different sites and applications handle data – a great resource for a digital safety discussion with pupils. The scorecard explores encryption, past communications, and security levels on some of the most commonly used, and popular apps. The chart also includes an explanation of some of the technical terms.
