School leaders and managers will be fairly familiar with the Schools information management system SIMS to help track attendance, achievement and behaviour within their setting, but this has traditionally been difficult for teachers to access due to integration and access difficulties.
Capita have moved to redress this access issue with the launch of a new SIMS Teacher App allowing remote tablet use for teachers to appropriate marks for students’ work, note attendance patterns, or record behaviour issues which are obstructing learning.
Once a teacher enters their login details, the SIMs Teacher App intuitively knows the time, date and which lessons they are taking. It also shows the name and picture of all students in a particular class – a helping hand for teachers at the start of a new school year.
Phil Neal, managing director of Capita SIMS, says: “Teachers have repeatedly told us that they want to be able to enter information as students work. Many feel entering assessment marks at the end of the day leaves the whole process feeling quite disjointed.
“With our app, all the information is instantly uploaded to a school’s SIMS MIS which 22,000 schools already use, so the school always has the most up-to-date information when they need it. More importantly, it allows teachers to focus on what they do best – teach.”
The SIMS Teacher app simplifies key classroom activities and reduces the time teachers spend on administration.
Phil Neal continues: “In just a few taps, staff can record attendance. It also allows staff to identify exactly how late individual students were to class, ensuring their full attention can be given to the lesson in hand. And, by providing access to timetables and student information, they can have all the data they need to ensure everyone achieves their full potential.”
The data used by the SIMS Teacher app is encrypted. So, schools can be sure that all confidential student information is secure.
