Resource: Countries by Area

Including Antarctica. Areas exclude inland water bodies.

London designer, Jason Davies has created an interactive web page which orders the land mass of 172 countries around the globe, providing the area of each country in km².

This could be a really useful classroom research tool for exploring the comparative sizes of different countries around the globe, helping pupils get a sense of perspective. Just hover your mouse pointer, or tap on a country if working on tablet, and area size information is provided at the bottom left corner of your window. The resource could be used for geography or mathematical comparisons in the area differences between countries.
