Session 245: Art & Design Subject Special

Co-Hosted by Paul Carney & Jonathan Carney

FeatureArtDesignSS#UKEdChat was handed over to the Arts & Design Subject Special, allowing teachers everywhere to share their work, tips, pedagogy and ideas for teaching Art or Design subjects within their school. Aimed at teachers at all levels of education, the session asked the following question:

  1. Which aspect of art do you find the most challenging? Any particular artistic style you enjoy or loathe? (8.01pm)
  2. How do we prepare our students for a creative future? (8.11 pm)
  3. How do you best celebrate the artistic work on your school? Exhibitions, displays etc. (8.21 pm)
  4. How do we ensure consistent subject progression when we have a shortage of specialist art teachers in Primary and limited curriculum time? (8.31 pm)
  5. Are the arts being marginalised in your school by greater emphasis on the core subjects? What will be the effects of this? (8.41 pm)
  6. What ideas do you have for addressing the gender imbalance in art? (8.51 pm)
