Build confidence with @TacklingTables

Wondering around a huge arena, such as the BETT show, it is easy to be dazzled by the technology, pretty lights, and noise. But wander down the quieter parts of the show, and you can easily come across an innovative idea that can be implemented immediately to help pupils build skills and knowledge. One such gem of a product I came across was from the family team of Tackling Tables, a hands-on, practical approach to supporting children become more confident with their times tables.

Created by teachers Dennis and Margi Brown the concept using three stages of supporting pupils to become confident of understanding times tables, with pupils aiming to reach the red stage by the end of Year 4 (pupils aged 8-9 years), and then advancing to become confident of using their tables knowledge to support fractions and percentages by the time they finish primary school.

Dennis offered a demonstration, after being introduced to their stand, and it’s great to see that schools are already enthusing about the product, and pupils are actively using the cards, concepts and conversations to support build confidence and knowledge of the mathematical concepts. If you’re at the show, check out the Brown family on stand F441, or check their website here. The resources are currently all paper-based, however, Dennis told me that they are in the process of digitising the product to become more accessible to all.
