Metacognition Training Strategy - Online programme now available

In many areas of education, it is accepted that metacognitive skills are one of the most effective and impactful strategies that can be utilised to help improve teaching and learning. However, many teachers struggle with gaining an understanding of what ‘metacognition’ actually is, along with ideas for implementing strategies that will work.

Based on 4 fundamental steps, our new and exclusive ‘Metacognition Teaching Strategy’ (MTS) online programme aims to help teachers understand the fundamental ideas of metacognition, as well as offering over 65 tried-and-tested classroom strategies (suited for all ages), that encourage and develop metacognitive thinking.

Along with allowing educators to reflect upon their own practice, our MTS programme sets out to help out with:

  1. Understanding metacognition, cognition and automated responses.
  2. Understanding metacognitive teaching.
  3. Encouraging metacognitive learning processes.
  4. Providing students with metacognitive strategies that can help them become independent learners.

This comprehensive programme also allows participants to receive a #UKEdChat Certificate of Completion, providing evidence of CPD undertaken for appraisal purposes.

Multi-user orders are permitted, allowing online CPD training for your school or college colleagues. For departmental or whole-school bulk access to the course, details can be found by clicking here.

What participants have said

Don’t take our word for it - see some of the feedback comments from teachers who have taken the course below:

I have enjoyed the course. The science at the beginning helps to underpin the concepts later on. I will take away a secure understanding of how I (and my mathematics department as a whole) can take this further.

DW, Secondary Teacher, Leicestershire UK.

I found this course so useful, more so than I had anticipated and I have come away with many amazing ideas to me to use during my career as a teacher. I have a much stronger knowledge of what metacognition is and feel I can benefit my pupils further by adding some of the activities than I have learned.

KG, Primary Teacher, Greater Manchester UK.

I enjoyed the course very much - it has enabled me to get a deeper understanding of metacognition and clear up some areas that I had.

EE, Secondary Teacher, Derbyshire UK.
