#UKEdChat - Question 2. What is the purpose of enrichment activities, and what are the outcomes? pic.twitter.com/wDSBYkXYQs
  6. @ukedchat #UKEdChat A2. The outcomes are not necessarily defined, but the purpose should be about broadening horizons and opportunities for pupils.
  7. @ukedchat Exposure to new things/activities...new skills being learnt etc... also fun!! Something we don't normally have the time for!! #UKEdChat
  8. @Miss_jyB @ukedchat Completely agree, although there must be a valued purpose to it all? #UKEdChat
  9. @digicoled @ukedchat i like that. all about finding the "why" before the pursuit of anything. #ukedchat
  10. @ukedchat Very much depends on the needs of the pupils, and subject area. Nice when these can be x-curricular.  https://twitter.com/ukedchat/status/883039638570586112 β€¦ #ukedchat
  11. @ukedchat A building block to deep learning, a window to a beautiful landscape or simply a way to blur the boundary between learning and play.
  12. @sofianahtchi @ukedchat Thank you 😁 #UKEdChat Giving pupils a choice in the enrichment activities needs to be considered also.
  13. #UKEdChat - Question 3.
What are the most successful indoor activities for enrichment days you have been a part of? https://t.co/el79qCtIbZ
#UKEdChat - Question 3. What are the most successful indoor activities for enrichment days you have been a part of? pic.twitter.com/el79qCtIbZ
  14. @digicoled @ukedchat Yes you're right and mostly there are aren't there? Surely new experiences and exposure etc is valued purpose? #UKEdChat
  15. @ICTmagic @ukedchat Cross curriculum, for me, is critical #UKEdChat but demands an authenticity to it to be valued by students and staff IMHO
  16. @UKEdSch We have an enrichment program that all staff offer (anything they wish) and year 7/8 have compulsory attendance.. yr9-11 optional #UKEdChat
  17. @UKEdSch To enrich- delve deeper I to knowledge or experience things you may not normally have the opportunity to...#UKEdChat
  18. A2 - something different to curriculum- why do they have to have 'outcomes' other than engaged and enthused kids #UKEdChat
  19. @Miss_jyB @ukedchat Yes, completely. Sometimes thought is required in designing enrichment activities, rather than just doing 'something nice'! #UKEdChat
  20. @MrsSingleton @UKEdSch A great opportunity for staff to learn ALONGSIDE their pupils, and showing their human side. Making mistakes etc.? #UKEdChat
  21. @ukedchat Opportunity to work with infant school. Activities that add more to the curriculum. Broaden it. #ukedchat
  22. Are we the only Shool that doesn't have 'enrichment' days? #UKEdChat
  23. @ukedchat Greek day. Different activities to represent the day in the life of a Greek. Carousel within the hall. #ukedchat
  24. @Mallrat_uk Shame on you 🀣 #UKEdChat After this chat, you may be tempted to raise it for future years?
  25. @ukedchat Previously we did healthy week and morning aerobics for parents and children. A good start to the day and active family engagement #ukedchat
  26. #UKEdChat - Question 4.
What are the most successful outdoor activities for enrichment days you have been a part of? https://t.co/dCvpygvJnL
#UKEdChat - Question 4. What are the most successful outdoor activities for enrichment days you have been a part of? pic.twitter.com/dCvpygvJnL
  27. @hbudders What did you notice with the students? Any difference from normal T&L activities? #UKEdChat
  28. @ukedchat What are the benefits of the whole day? We have 100 after school enrichments that run all year..
  29. @ukedchat Children are fantastic at supporting one another regardless of age or ability. #ukedchat
  30. @ukedchat To extend knowledge and provide new opportunities for pupils, some who may not have those experiences.
  31. @ukedchat Full engagement, enjoyment and empathy towards life in the past. #ukedchat
  32. @Mallrat_uk Access for all. After school doesn't allow access for all #UKEdChat Allows teachers to break ranks of curriculum also
  33. @digicoled @ukedchat I don't disagree, thought is required...and the outcome would be new skills/experience and fun. Thought and fun can go together 😜 #UKEdChat
  34. @ukedchat Day of Sports at our school is brilliant (exhausting) but really fab #UkEdChat Q4
  35. @ukedchat We break ranks in the after school enrichment.. I don't think (would need to check) we have many kids not in an enrichment at some point.
  36. @chizkent @ukedchat @chizkent i like your idea on slam poetry. such an innovative way to engage the creativity of students. #ukedchat
  37. @Mallrat_uk I know that some students cannot make after school enrichment activities, due to other responsibilities etc. What about them? #UKEdChat
  38. @SusanSEnglish What about a whole-school Shakespeare enrichment day, crossing all subjects. You'd be well positioned to lead that #UKEdChat 😁
  39. @mrsvchilds @ukedchat I would love this!!!!! @mrsvchilds please organise for next year 😁😁
  40. @hbudders @ukedchat It was so good. We had lots of sports visitors in, changed the school menu to children's menu choices, cooked and had nurses in. Was amazing
  41. @ukedchat In a placement school they built dens and created shops using only resources around them.Good for problem solving & imagination. ☺ #ukedchat
  42. @ukedchat But does 5 hours one day a year make up for that?I am now going to try & find out the percentage of students that take part in the 100 enmts
  43. @ukedchat Thank you - you over estimate my abilities! I'd love it, but would need some drama specialism help - drama teaching not my forte!
  44. @sofianahtchi @ukedchat The pupils loved it. Such creativity and the children gave their hearts away in the performance. From deeply moving to humorous.
  45. @SusanSEnglish @ukedchat I don't! You under-estimate your own abilities ☺️ #UKEdChat Get ALL staff involved
  46. @Mallrat_uk One day a year? Why only one day a year? Why not a whole week? #UKEdChat Rome wasn't built in a day πŸ˜†
  47. #UKEdChat - Question 5.
How do you measure the success or failure of enrichment activities? https://t.co/y5QLBvlMFt
#UKEdChat - Question 5. How do you measure the success or failure of enrichment activities? pic.twitter.com/y5QLBvlMFt
  48. @digicoled @ukedchat Food for thought - thanks for the praise though - how lovely ☺️
  49. @ukedchat Hmm not sure we would have students off timetable for a whole week- we do early rollover so that we can start next years curriculum
  50. @UKEdSch Feedback from everyone concerned is critical #UKEdChat A5. Including staff, pupils, leaders and parents (but not in that order!)
  51. @Mallrat_uk Why? #UKEdChat Isn't it all about building well-rounded pupils, rather than constant focus on curriculum? #UKEdChat
  52. @ukedchat #UkEdChat - If S's sign up, enjoy & sign up again a success. If not ooppps - don't run it again. Trial and error I guess & being passionate
  53. @ukedchat No pressure. A collaborative effort and always positive praise. #ukedchat
  54. @SusanSEnglish I think it's great that staff can show and share their passions, or learn alongside pupils in new activities #UKEdChat Drama, for example 🀣
  55. @ukedchat @SusanSEnglish its always amazing how much pupils seem to educate their teachers. #ukedchat
  56. @ukedchat Equalities monitor sign up and have conversations to explore who does/does not do xyz and why. Reasons can be complex
  57. #UKEdChat - Question 6.
What enrichment day activities would you like to see your school develop in the future? https://t.co/Fk07Lp28IL
#UKEdChat - Question 6. What enrichment day activities would you like to see your school develop in the future? pic.twitter.com/Fk07Lp28IL
  58. @ukedchat Maths day! School 'break-in'. Children completed problem-solving tasks to discover clues! Eventually burglar was revealed- Robin Banks πŸ™„
  59. @ukedchat A6. A broad mix of activities, that don't focus on curriculum outcomes, but focus on real-world issues, skills and experiences #UKEdChat
  60. @ukedchat @SusanSEnglish Pupils love seeing staff get involved. It shows that the days are genuine and not just put on because the school thinks it has to. #ukedchat
  61. @digicoled @ukedchat I feel that we should always be focusing on real-world issues, skills and experiences and that is what baffles me about exams. πŸ™„
  62. @lcatherine91 @ukedchat Agree Leanne #Ukedchat it is one of the lovely reasons to be a teacher. To get involved in trek etc
  63. #UKEdChat A6: I love a good set of team building games and the wider the variety the better!
  64. #UKEdChat - Question 7.
How do you manage / plan enrichment days in your school? https://t.co/op55WM9U0F
#UKEdChat - Question 7. How do you manage / plan enrichment days in your school? pic.twitter.com/op55WM9U0F
  65. @ukedchat days devoted to curriculum areas to explore them in depth.
  66. @ukedchat A7. Staff / team involvement is critical, but also involving pupils in the types of activities they would like to partake in #UKEdChat
  67. @Mroberts90Matt @lcatherine91 @ukedchat I love getting involved, but... controversially don't care about winning (despite house system) seeing S's give it a go and enjoy #UkedchatπŸ™Œ
  68. @ukedchat A6 Some of schools involved in @glp_e have developed fab #globallearning #teachsdgs enrichment activities, more of this? #ukedchat

  70. @ham1 @glp_e Yes, great stuff #UKEdChat Can you share examples of the activities, specifically?
  71. @ukedchat A4 seen some fab enrichment work via @ForestSchools (my kids enjoyed) @EcoSchools & @glp_e linking nature & the local to the global
  72. @ukedchat We have about 16 staying for the weekend and others will come up for one of the days. ☺
  73. #UKEdChat - Question 8.

#UKEdChat - Question 8. How can we encourage all staff to be positive and embrace the benefits of enrichment days for pupils? pic.twitter.com/QWzDlqfryA
  74. @ukedchat @ham1 @glp_e I'm planning a day focussing on global awareness using our funding from @glp_e as my school is an expert centre! 😊 #UKEdChat
  75. @ukedchat It's not about the staff, it about the pupils, and encouraging them to give new things a try along with exploring new experiences #ukedchat
  76. @ukedchat @ham1 @glp_e So any ideas would be great...I was thinking to focus on dance, music, art from other cultures.. #UKEdChat
  77. #ukedchat A8: Get some staff enrichment activities planned - they are always great fun. We have Staff Rounders on the 24th July!
  78. @Miss_jyB @ham1 @glp_e I don't know what that means, but it sounds great #UKEdChat Real world stories and experiences
  79. @Miss_jyB @ham1 @glp_e Food - and invite 'other cultures' into the school to make it real to the pupils #UKEdChat Sharing cultural stories aimed for pupils?
  80. @ukedchat #UKEdChat to provide safe risk and challenge. Extend and deepen learning. Holistic development of the whole young person.
  81. @ukedchat #UKEdChat by engaging them in the process of consultation, planning and delivery.Making it part of the fabric of the curriculum not a bolt on
  82. @ukedchat Hmm. Surely every day should be an enrichment day? Why else bother to come to school? #ukedchat
  83. @SWconsultancyUK Nope. I tried. But I can't argue against that! Sorry 🀣 #UKEdChat
  84. @ukedchat My best day for younger pupils was groups of about 8, each with a teacher, doing local history drawings etc. #UKedchat
  85. @SWconsultancyUK @ukedchat I like what you said about consultation. This gives students responsibility and it enables them to be more confident. #ukedchat
  86. @ukedchat #UKEdChat not 1 enrichment day currently doing forest school instructor training.Very impressed at how it can help develop the whole child.
  87. @ukedchat @ham1 @glp_e Sounds great...and we're so diverse I was going to invite parents in to read stories, cook food with the chn etc 😊 #UKEdChat
  88. @ukedchat Lucky to be in Edinburgh, I admit. The non-history teachers loved it. Came back every year. #ukedchat
